Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE)

Summary of Purpose:

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is responsible for the management of an assigned area comprised of practicing HCPs, hospitals, and other health-related organizations. This responsibility requires the development of a comprehensive business plan and to partner with Key allied-HCP Opinion Leaders and Decision-Makers in order to achieve the highest potential of the assigned area.  The customer base for the Clinical Nurse Educator will include nurses, and other allied HCPs and extended team members such as pharmacists, social workers, and case managers.

The CNE will provide supportive and consultative services in order to increase product and treatment awareness, to make sure that allied health professionals as well as the extended treatment team, ensure safe and appropriate use of the product once-monthly.

The CNE will also provide education on general disease knowledge; prevention, recognition and monitoring of comorbid conditions associated with the disease and/or treatment as well as the differentiation between products in terms of tolerability profile and quality of life improvement.

The CNE will probe and assess customer needs in order to support them with added-value programs, tools and resources that will allow them to evaluate, treat and support their patients holistically.

The CNE will facilitate Networking and Best Practice Sharing between key centers

The Clinical Nurse Educator will be responsible to properly document all interactions with HCPs. The Clinical Nurse Educator will work in collaboration with the regional sales force to coordinate schedules, identify educational opportunities, report on volume and type of activities, identify trends and issues observed and plan educational programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and develop strategically sound business plans and tactical strategies within the assigned area to achieve individual, territory and company goals
  • Meet with identified HCPs on a daily basis to increase product and treatment awareness, and ensure the safe and appropriate use of the product. Be the Otsuka “lead” for the clinic nurse team, customizing the program elements to the clinic needs
  • Regular communication with the sales representatives to review activities and territory opportunities and issues
  • Manage ongoing (daily) educational interactions and activities to optimize time and maximize the achievement of objectives
  • Recognize changes and emerging trends in the marketplace, both nationally and regionally, develop and implement alternate plans to achieve territory and company objectives
  • Offer and conduct both formal and informal training sessions for designated staff in an objective, balanced and scientifically accurate fashion.  Follow up appropriately to continue to assess and meet practice needs for training
  • Coordinate activities to ensure participant enrollment, conference facilities, equipment, supplies and communications for training programs are handled
  • Collect all required data forms
  • Manage assigned budget
  • Tracking and reporting of work and program activities, as they pertain to program objectives and KPI’s
  • Maintain the required technical expertise
  • Ensure clear, concise and accurate communication of information using proper medical terminology utilizing only program approved materials
  • Make daily decisions based on logic and factual information after weighing alternatives and their consequences
  • Representation at National and/or local conventions if applicable
  • Field work-with the team members and National Clinical Nurse Educator Manager
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with National Clinical Nurse Manager and other team members
  • Demonstrate persistence to accomplish objectives despite setbacks
  • Create and maintain a positive impression with customers
  • Project a professional business image as demonstrated by neat physical appearance, and appropriate manner of speech
  • Maintain all company-provided equipment in good operating condition
  • Occasionally attend overnight training and other meetings
  • Perform special projects and assignments as directed by the National Clinical Nurse Manager
  • Reporting Safety Information, Product Quality Complaint and Customer Feedback as per training on current procedures

Qualifications and Key Competencies:

  • Registered Nurse with license in good standing
  • Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience required
  • Psychiatric nursing experience is a key asset
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree, Nurse Practitioner a plus
  • Pharmaceutical industry or previous Nurse Educator experience preferred
  • Demonstrated training and educational experience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated team work/collaboration
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Bilingual (for the province of Quebec and New Brunswick)
  • Good planning skills, disciplined
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Good judgment and strong work ethic
  • Digitally proficient (mobile laptop, tablet, smart phone, email, database, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and open to newer evolving technology

  • Must live within assigned territory
  • Must complete all the compliance assessments in a timely and satisfactory manner
  • Must score at least 90% on product assessments
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and experience in the proper technique for administration of an intramuscular injection
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Regular travel throughout the province is required
