Manager, Market Access – Private Payors

Summary of Purpose:

The Market Access Manager – Private Payors is responsible for the creation and execution of the Private Payor reimbursement strategy for the Otsuka portfolio of products through all stages of the product life cycle. This professional will work closely with the Otsuka Management Team to secure optimal Private access for Canadian patients to Otsuka medicines.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Canadian cross-functional team and, as necessary, Global Market Access and Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) team leaders to create and refine Canadian Private Payor reimbursement plans over the course of the product life cycle
  • Manages complete reimbursement process from submission preparation, meeting with key payors, initial listing and on-going maintenance, improvement and/or protection of product listing status on all major Private formularies.
  • Works closely with the External Relations Manager to develop strong customer relationships with key Private Payors, Benefits Advisors, and other stakeholders in the Private Payor environment in Canada. A combination of virtual and in-person meetings with Private Payors and related stakeholders is required. Travel within Canada of approximately 20% would be expected.
  • Works with PSP team to understand and help address patient coverage gaps.
  • Demonstrates a strong and current working knowledge of key Private drug reimbursement review processes in Canada.
  • Leverages an established network of relationships with key decision makers in various Private payor organizations
  • Coordinates input from internal and external partners to ensure reimbursement objectives are achieved
  • Works with IMC and other organizations (e.g. BIOTECanada) to proactively identify emerging health policy changes and cost containment initiatives in the marketplace which may impact the Private Payor market. Advises and recommends course corrections as required to Otsuka Management Team
  • Reporting Safety Information, Product Quality Complaint and Customer Feedback as per training on current procedures

Qualifications and Key Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Pharmacy or related discipline
  • 5-10 years of experience within the Private Payors market
  • Previous experience preparing Private Payor drug reimbursement submissions
  • Experience working with global/US teams to adapt evidence and data to the Canadian market
  • Demonstrated success negotiating Private Payor listing agreements
  • Working knowledge of fundamental Health Economic principles and cost effectiveness analyses
  • Experience and success with stakeholder advocacy campaigns
  • Strong business analytics skills, understanding of commercial objectives and processes
  • Analysis of competitive intelligence and adapting plans accordingly
  • Current relationships with key external stakeholders across Canada
  • Experienced in the review of consultant proposals, agency selection and coordination of multiple workstreams
  • Awareness of current political leadership and government health policy trends
  • Past service on related IMC committees would be a valued asset
  • CNS-Mental Health, Nephrology, Digital Medicine experience would be valued

  • MBA is an asset
